2020 Jeep Compass vs Renegade
Are you someone with an adventurous spirit in the Madison, Smyrna, or Hamilton area? Do you work hard during the week and then hit the road when 5:00 PM hits on a Friday? Then you may be considering popular SUVs like the 2020 Jeep Compass or Jeep Renegade.
Both are great options, but we want to help you discover the best one for your unique lifestyle. So, the team at University CDJR compared the Compass and Renegade side-by-side on the points of powertrain specs and dimensions.
2020 Jeep Compass vs Renegade: Powertrain Specs
Both the Compass and Renegade feature well-balanced powertrains that can tow up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped with available 4-wheel drive (4×4). They also both feature the same engine:
- 2.4L Tigershark® MultiAir® 2 I-4
- 180 horsepower
- 175 lb-ft of torque
Despite their similarities, they offer very different options when it comes to customizing your powertrain.
While the Jeep Compass only provides the 2.4L Tigershark® I-4 engine, the Jeep Renegade provides a secondary engine option.
This 1.3L turbo I-4 engine produces 177 horsepower and a mighty 210 lb-ft of torque. The additional torque output and turbocharged power may help your Renegade get moving more easily than the Compass during off-road driving.
With the Compass, you’ll have three transmission options to choose from: 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, and 9-speed automatic. The 6-speed manual transmission gives you the most control over your drive, while the 9-speed automatic provides the highest efficiency.
The Renegade only comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
When you compare the Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade with the 2.4L Tigershark® engine, we see a difference in their EPA-estimated MPG numbers when equipped with a 4×4 drivetrain:
- Jeep Compass MPG: 22 MPG city, 30 MPG highway
- Jeep Renegade MPG: 23 MPG city, 29 MPG highway
The Renegade also gets an EPA-estimated 23 MPG city and 29 MPG highway with its 1.3L turbocharged I-4 engine.
Both vehicles offer Engine Stop/Start Technology, which improves fuel efficiency during city drives. It works by powering down your engine during extended waits at red lights or stops signs. Your engine will automatically spring back into action when you take your foot off the brake.
Whether you prefer more transmission options, higher torque outputs, more engine choices, or a specific fuel efficiency is completely dependent on your specific needs and preferences.
2020 Compass vs Renegade Dimensions
|Max. Dimensions||2020 Jeep Compass||2020 Jeep Renegade|
|Trunk volume/Cargo volume||27.2/59.8 cubic feet||18.5/50.8 cubic feet|
|Ground clearance||8.5 inches||8.7 inches|
|Length||173 inches||166.6 inches|
|Breakover Angle||25.7 degrees||24.4 degrees|
As you can see in the table above, the Jeep Compass features an additional 6.4 inches in body length over the Renegade, which is why it can accommodate nine additional cubic feet of cargo when the rear seats are folded. This is perfect for getaways with the whole family.
The Renegade, on the other hand, uses its even more compact size to its advantage to agilely maneuver its way along off-road trails. It offers slightly more ground clearance and a higher breakover and departure angle to help you take on rocky trails with even more ease.
